Russia-Cuba Intergovernmental Commission strengthens strategic ties

Havana, May 18 (Prensa Latina) The 20th session of the Russia-Cuba economic-commercial and scientific-technical cooperation intergovernmental commission seeks to strengthen strategic ties between both countries, in the midst of a difficult international situation.

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Chernyshenko, at the head of the commission, arrived in Havana on Wednesday, where he will meet with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the official website of the Russian Executive reported.

In addition to his participation in the work of the intergovernmental commission, Chernyshenko will also attend the closing of the 11th Meeting of the Business Committee of both countries on May 19th, which was inaugurated last Wednesday.

Chernyshenko and his delegation will also visit the Antillana de Acero metallurgical plant, the same source reported.

In this Thursday’s session, Chernyshenko will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas, in a plenary meeting. A final declaration will be signed, among other documents.

The business forum on Wednesday, highlighted the change of scenery between the 11th Meeting of the Business Committee and its 10th edition, held in September 2019 in Moscow, as Cuba faces a tightened blockade and Russia an economic war by the West.

The meeting was attended by 52 Russian and 106 Cuban companies. Exhibitions were held on the production of wine, rum, construction materials, as well as public lighting technologies, among other issues.
