Russia will be the world center of cyber games in 2024

Chernyshenko
Havana, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Russia today left an official invitation to Cuba to participate with its teams in the Games of the Future event, where traditional sports will be combined with cyber games and the use of high technology.

During the closing of the XI Meeting of the Russia-Cuba Business Committee, Russian Vice Prime Minister Dmitri Chernyshenko reaffirmed his country’s desire to have young Cubans in the aforementioned games, to be held in the city of Kazan, in March 2024.

We appreciate the participation of athletes from this island in the future games, said Chernyshenko, who met with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel the day before.

In this sense, Cuban deputy Prime Minister of government Ricardo Cabrisas pointed out that his country welcomed the presentation of the international multi-sport tournament Games of the Future, when speaking yesterday at the XX session of the Intergovernmental Commission of both states. Cabrisas, who also heads the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, referred to an invitation to attend an international university sports festival with teams from the Brics group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

The aforementioned event will also feature athletes from countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Commonwealth of Independent States, he said.

Electronic sports (also called cyber sports or esports) are professional video game competitions, with increasing popularity among young people, although they also do not stop capturing the attention of other ages.

Esports includes the interaction of sports, technology, media and entertainment, with a global market volume of close to one trillion dollars, while the global audience is estimated at around 500 million people.

Russia in particular has hosted major national and international tournaments, where its athletes have won competitions in popular disciplines such as Dota 2 and CS:GO, among others.

Before the competition in March of the coming year, “Phygital Live” events (a combination of classic sports and cyber sports) took place on Russian territory last February, this month and another is scheduled for next November.

Disciplines such as Phygital-soccer (FIFA+ mini-soccer), Phygital-basketball (NBA2K + streetball), Phygital-hochkey (NHL + 3×3 hockey) and Phygital-races (Asseto Corsa + kart racing), among many others, are presented.
