Government of Grenada evaluates improving the Lauriston Airport

Saint George, May 20 (Prensa Latina) The Government of Grenada, through the Carriacou Ministry of Local Affairs and Government, is examining today a plan to improve the general operations and structure of the Lauriston Airport by locating night landing facilities.

A team from the Grenada Airports Authority, led by Caribbean Regional Air Transport Connectivity Project (Catcop) Project Manager Donnel Mitchell, is currently on the island reviewing the structures that are in place at Lauriston.

The official, quoted by the digital newspaper Associates Times, explained that the objective of the project is to promote regional connectivity and increase the safety of air transport as well as the resilience of airport infrastructure in the face of natural disasters.

Mitchell said that, specifically for Carriacou, his team is exploring viable alternatives to improve air traffic to the island while discussing the implementation of night landing facilities.

The initiative has the support of the Swiss consultancy Air Navigation Consultant in charge of Heinz Wipf, with more than 30 years of experience in the field, who is also in Carriacou as part of the Caribbean Air Transport Regional Connectivity Project and valued the execution of the project.

He concluded that the implementation of improvements at the airport should encourage an increase in the tourism market and attract major hotel brands here for the first time.
