Ahmadian previously served as head of the Strategic Center of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Irna news agency recalls when showing part of his curriculum vitae.

The newly appointed high commander holds a doctorate in strategic management from the Supreme National Defense University and is known as one of Iran’s most respected figures in national security.

He is also a member of the System Discernment Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran by virtue of a decree from the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

In the same decree, Raisi thanked Shamjani for his services since he was appointed to the post by then Iranian President Hasan Rohani in 2013.
