Cuban lawmakers meet prior to sessions

Asamblea-Nacional-del-Poder-Popular-ANPP
Havana, May 23 (Prensa Latina) Lawmakers to the Cuban National People's Power Assembly (Parliament) are meeting on Tuesday, prior to the second extraordinary session of the Tenth Legislature, scheduled for May 25.

Issues related to the functioning of the State and Government structures and the study of several laws are on the agenda of the parliamentarians, more than 64 percent of whom are exercising this responsibility for the first time.

According to National Assembly Secretary Homero Acosta, this renewal represents a challenge, so it is necessary to provide all training to the lawmakers.

Acosta noted that it is also a strength due to the quality of the people who will hold these positions to contribute to the debates and the work of the Legislature.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin with a keynote speech by Parliament President Esteban Lazo, followed by lawmaker Jose Luis Toledo, who will address other issues such as the constitutional design of the State and elements of the Constitution.

Also on the agenda are the laws that regulate the functioning of the different structures of the People’s Power, from the National Assembly to the municipalities, and deepen the characteristics of the legislative exercise, one of the fundamental aspects of the parliamentarians’ work.

The organization and functioning of the Provincial Government and the relationship of these structures with the municipalities are other issues under discussion.
