The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), Nguyen Phu Trong, welcomed the visitor warmly, and stressed the importance of strengthening ties with Russia’s political parties, in particular United Russia, as a basis for lasting and sustainable relations between the two countries.
Vietnam attaches importance to traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, Phu Trong stressed, who also noted that this is Medvedev’s first trip to Vietnam as chairman of the United Russia ruling party.
Phu Trong briefed Medvedev on the achievements of the Vietnamese state and people under the leadership of the CPV, which, he said, contributed to achieve the potential, the position and the international prestige that Vietnam enjoys.
Medvedev, in turn, congratulated the dynamic development of Vietnam and addressed the situation of Russia and its ruling party, as well as relations with the CPV and the Vietnamese state, in which ties and bilateral cooperation at the party level have an increasingly important position.
The VNA news agency reported that both sides expressed their satisfaction with the fruitful development of Vietnam-Russia friendly relations and comprehensive strategic partnership and the close ties between the two parties on the basis of great political trust.
In their meeting on Monday, Phu Trong and Medvedev also exchanged views on the current international situation and the main directions to promote positive development in the world, as well as their points of view related to matters of mutual interest.
