President of Bolivia highlights need for industrialization

Luis-Arce-5
La Paz, May 23 (Prensa Latina) The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, considers the industrialization of the country as necessary for the achievement of national liberation.

“We are moving towards the Bicentennial consolidating Industrialization with Import Substitution and laying the foundations of a strong and diversified economy, developing industry with added value. There is no national liberation without industrialization!” Arce wrote on Twitter.

At the beginning of the current month, the minister of Productive Development and Plural Economy, Néstor Huanca, reported that the national government will start the construction works of a Potato Processing Plant in Chuquisaca with an investment of 161.8 million bolivianos (about 23 million dollars).

At the end of April, the general manager of Food Production Support Company (EMAPA), Franklin Flores, reported that the corporation is building 11 industrial plants with the objective of securing the food sphere. According to Flores, these new factories will generate around 600 direct jobs and some 125,263 indirect positions, in addition to benefiting agricultural producers.

“The total investment up to now, by decision of the president, Luis Arce, is 1,678,483,251 Bolivians (about 240 million dollars),” Flores told the press.

He stated that this is about the construction of a cereal storage and transformation plant in the municipality of Viacha, department of La Paz, with an investment of 182 million bolivianos (nearly 26 million dollars), which should be ready this year as its construction is at 35 percent.

Other projects include the transformation of grains (rice, corn, wheat, soybeans and their by-products), fish and potatoes.
