Bolivian justice summons extremists from province of Santa Cruz

La Paz, May 24 (Prensa Latina) The rector of the Gabriel René Moreno University, Vicente Cuellar, was summoned as a defendant by the Bolivian prosecutor's office and will testify about the violence that prevailed in Santa Cruz for 36 days at the end of 2022.

Cuellar must appear this Wednesday afternoon at the headquarters of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Department.

In his capacity as president of the “Inter-institutional Committee”, Cuellar called for a strike with roadblocks and attacks by shock groups demanding a “2023 population census yes or yes”, without any technical basis.

The violence ordered by Cuellar, the governor of the department, Luis Fernando Camacho, and the civic Rómulo Calvo to the paramilitary groups of the Unión Juvenil Cruceñista (Santa Cruz Youth Union) under their orders, left a balance that Bolivia still grieves for.

Four deaths, hundreds of injuries, a complaint of group rape of a minor, fires in public institutions and various expressions of violation of human rights were recorded.

Given these circumstances, various organizations and those affected denounced the promoters of the strike for the violation of their rights and other crimes.

The complaint includes the alleged crimes of resolutions contrary to the Constitution and laws; attack against the president and other state dignitaries; political violence against women; racism and discrimination; attack against the freedom of work, attack against the security of public services; prevent or hinder the exercise of functions; criminal association and terrorism.
