Ecuador already has five pre-candidates for the presidency

Quito, May 26 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador has five pre-candidates for the presidency who will participate on the extraordinary elections on August 20th, after the current president, Guillermo Lasso, decreed the "Mutual death" so as to avoid being impeached.

The leader of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, Leonidas Iza, joined the list of candidates for the leadership of the Executive with the support of his organization.

Several days ago the Social Christian Party (PSC) declared its back-up for Jan Topic, who has a case of domestic violence and no political or administrative experience.

The Socialist Party, in turn, joined the Unidad Popular, Democracia Sí and Somos Agua movements to promote Yaku Pérez, who was third in the 2021 elections, as a candidate for the presidency.

In addition, to date, former Assembly members Fernando Villavicencio and Daniel Noboa, and former Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner, all right-wing, have also been proclaimed as candidates.

The greatest expectations are in the nominations of the Citizen Revolution (RC) movement, led by former president Rafael Correa, and considered the one with the greatest support at a national level at the moment.

According to local medias, the decision of President Lasso is also pending, despite his low levels of acceptance, and who is considering running again for President, according to what was told by the Minister of Government, Henry Cucalón, and the leader of the Creando Oportunidades party, to which the president belongs.
