Afghanistan and China resume direct flights

Kabul, May 30 (Prensa Latina) Afghanistan and China have reportedly resumed direct flights after three years, with a route between Kabul and Urumqi, in northwest China.

A plane from Afghanistan’s flag carrier, Ariana Afghan Airlines, will operate every Wednesday to resume the practice that started in 2003 but was suspended in the early 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The flight started on Wednesday, May 24, with a ceremony in Kabul in the presence of the Taliban’s deputy minister of transport and civil aviation, and Chinese diplomats, Tolo News reported.

China does not recognize the Taliban Government as the country’s legitimate authority but it has maintained several contacts with the fundamentalist movement since it took over Kabul in August 2021, focusing on the economic development in Afghanistan.
