Russian force repelled Ukranian counteroffensive for Bajmut

Artiomovsk
Moscow, May 30 (Prensa Latina) Units of the Ukrainian armed forces tried to go on the offensive north of Artyomovsk (Bajmut) in the Donetsk People's Republic, but were repelled by the Russian forces, military expert Vitali Kiseliov.

The specialist wrote on his Telegram channel on Tuesday, after losing control of the important stronghold, Ukrainian troops attack the city from any flank, as they do not accept the fact that it is now under Russian control.

In Kiseliov’s opinion, the Ukrainian nationalists shoot at residential buildings, especially in the western sector of the city, where there are still civilians, with the aim of destroying as much of the city as possible.

The adviser to the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Yan Gaguin, stated earlier that Ukrainian troops were not trying to retake Artyomovsk, but were continuing to shell the western outskirts of the city.

Artyomovsk sits on the north of the Donetsk People’s Republic. The city was an important transportation center that served to supply the troops deployed in Donbass and one of the most fortified strongholds of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the defensive line in the region.

Fighting for the city began on August 1st, 2022 and ended on May 20th, 2023, with the full occupation by Russia. This was one of the longest and most costly battles of the conflict.
