Cuba, PAHO work on a cooperation strategy

Havana, May 31 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) are currently working on a new cooperation strategy that runs from 2023 to 2027, unfolded Cuba's Minister of Public Health Jose Angel Portal.

This process is in its final stage and defines the priorities for collaboration until 2027.

On the encounter, five strategic priorities were analyzed, which had been previously identified through exchanges with authorities and specialists from the national health system.

The officials have discussed about issues such as non-communicable diseases; healthy aging; health emergencies; primary healthcare; innovation; research and digital transformation.

Lately, PAHO’s director Jarbas Barbosa stressed the importance of taking advantage of Cuba’s capabilities to produce medicines for the region’s sake.

“Thank you, Dr. Jose Angel Portal, Cuba’s Health Minister, for the productive meeting during #WHA76 where we talked about the significance of strengthening regional innovation and increasing the production capacity of vaccines and medicines in solidarity,” Barbosa tweeted.

This was a debated issue during their conversations held in the context of the 76th World Health Assembly that took place past week in Geneva, Switzerland.
