Burkina Faso troops eliminated 50 extremists after attack

Ouagadougou, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The Burkina Faso Army reported that it has killed 50 alleged extremists in the north of the country, who were part of a force that ambushed a military guard protecting a food convoy.

According to a statement from the Burkinabe armed forces, following the armed attack the alleged radicals were forced by security guards, supported by two regular units, to withdraw from the site of the assault, located in the vicinity of Tibou, Loroum province.

In its report, the General Staff of the Army celebrated the drive of the uniformed men, who gave a resounding defeat to the terrorists.

The military body admitted that as a result of the onslaught of the group of radicals, two civilians who were part of the convoy were killed.

The assaults carried out since 2015 by extremist formations in Burkina Faso, among them the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara and the Group of Support for Islam and Muslims, left a balance of about 10 thousand dead and a figure of more than two million displaced people, according to humanitarian organizations.

Within this African territory, where two coups d’état took place, one in January 2022 and the other in September of the same year, a military junta governs, headed by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
