Russia acknowledges DPRK’s actions during Covid-19 pandemic

Pyongyang, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) Russian Ambassador to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Aleksandr Matsegora on Thursday reportedly praised North Korea's actions in the fight against Covid-19.

According to KCNA, the diplomat stressed that no Covid-19 contagions were reported in the country, and the spread of the Omicron variant from May to August 2022 was successfully prevented thanks to the State’s efforts.

In late January 2020, Pyongyang implemented complete isolation measures from the rest of the world to curb the entry of the most dangerous coronavirus variants during the initial period of the pandemic, Matsegora recalled.

The ambassador added that many restrictive measures have been lifted, schools and universities have resumed classes, mass cultural and sports activities have taken place, and parks, museums, and libraries have been reopened.

The diplomat pointed out that measures such as disinfection, body temperature measurement, and wearing face masks in all public institutions remain in force in the DPRK.
