Cuban FM mourns deaths for natural disasters in Haiti

Havana, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Tuesday mourned the deaths and damage caused by a life-threatening quake and pelting rains recently occurred in Haiti.

“We offer our solidarity and deepest condolences to Haitian people and government, as well as to relatives of the victims,” the Cuban foreign minister live-tweeted.

Bruno Rodríguez also detailed that Cuban health collaborators serving in Haiti are doing well, and after the earthquake, the Cuban medical brigade in the Haitian department of Grand’Anse is providing medical assistance to injuries.

At least three people died and several were injured by the 4.9 magnitude earthquake that shook southwestern Haiti early this morning. The number of victims is likely to surge as search operations are underway for people trapped under the rubble.

Haiti also faced drenching rains over the weekend, generating flooding and leaving at least 42 dead and 11 missing, according to the Civil Protection report.

Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry activated the National Emergency Operations Center in response to the weather contingencies.
