Responding on Tuesday to a tweet from the Indian head of State, Modi congratulated Murmu and described this special gesture from the Surinamese authorities and people.
The prime minister said the award to the Indian president symbolizes the enduring friendship between the two countries.
Previously on her Twitter profile, Murmu said she was honored to receive Suriname’s highest civilian award.
She noted that the recognition is relevant not only to her but also to the 1.4 billion people of India whom she represents.
Murmu wound up her first State visit to Suriname on Tuesday and then will travel to Serbia.
