Cocoa production grew in the first half of 2023 in Nicaragua

Managua, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) Cocoa production increased in Nicaragua during the first half of 2023 and reached 13,994 tons, representing a growth of 11,6% compared to the previous year, it was informed.

Thus, the cultivation of this fruit in this country has grown in recent years, in addition to reflecting improvements in the conservation of quality, according to a press release published in local media.

It was reported that 57% of the cultivated areas are young plantations, 32% are more than 12 years old and 11% are less than three years old.

The country has some 6,000 producers nationwide, who cultivate around 7,500 hectares.

Official data indicate that in 2022 cocoa production here was 21,256 tons, which represents a growth of 20% compared to the previous cycle.

Nicaraguan cocoa is positioned as a fine product in the international market. Thus, exports last year closed with some 9,500 tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 20%.
