Costa Rica reinforces actions for malaria elimination

San José, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) In view of the goal of eliminating malaria by 2025, the Costa Rican Ministry of Health is reinforcing actions in the strategy of detection, diagnosis, treatment, research and timely response, the entity informed in a press release.

The work includes rapid diagnosis with 98 thousand rapid tests for the active search with health inspectors, primary care technical assistants and volunteer collaborators.

The entity implements the strategy of mass treatment in the most affected localities, with results in the municipality of Los Chiles, in the north of the country, which led to the fact that after the first cycle of treatment, there are no longer any reports of cases in the affected localities.

The Ministry recalls in its press release that the second cycle of intervention is currently being carried out in these localities.

Likewise, since the beginning of the containment actions in the municipalities of Limón Central and Pococí, there has been a significant decrease of cases, from 20 to only one case of malaria in Limón Central and from 20 to three cases in Pococí, during the epidemiological week 15 to 21.

Refuerza Costa Rica acciones para eliminación de la malaria

San José, 8 jun (Prensa Latina) De cara al objetivo de eliminar la malaria para el 2025, el ministerio costarricense de Salud refuerza acciones en la estrategia de detección, diagnóstico, tratamiento, investigación y respuesta oportuna, informa hoy esa entidad en un comunicado.

Dentro de las labores está el diagnóstico rápido con 98 mil pruebas rápidas para la búsqueda activa tanto con inspectores de salud, asistentes técnicos de atención primaria y colaboradores voluntarios.

La entidad implementa la estrategia de tratamiento masivo en las localidades más afectadas, con resultados en el cantón (municipio) de Los Chiles, en el norte del país, lo que conllevó

a que después del primer ciclo de tratamiento durante siete semanas ya no existen notificaciones de casos en las localidades intervenidas.

Recuerda el ministerio en su comunicado que en estos días realizan el segundo ciclo de intervención en esas localidades.

Asimismo, desde que comenzaron las acciones de contención en el cantón de Limón Central y Pococí lograron una disminución significativa de casos, al pasar de 20 a un solo caso de malaria en Limón Central y de 20 a tres casos en Pococí, durante la semana epidemiológica 15 a la 21.
