Protests continue in Israel against judicial reform

Israel-Protestas
Tel Aviv, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) Today, Israel local media reported that over 200,000 citizens participated in the protest movement against the judicial system reform bill.

A crowd of settlers took to the streets last night for the 23rd consecutive week in rejection of the amendments promoted by the far-right government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

According to experts, since January, there has been a day of protest every week in order to denounce the plan of the judicial system and Netanyahu’s cabinet, which is accused of corruption in a series of cases.

On March 27, the Prime Minister suspended the legislative process to give dialogue a chance after the expansion of the protest movement and the beginning of a general strike.

According to analysts, political divisions are growing in Israel between the government and the opposition as accusations of responsibility for the outbreak of an internal war are being exchanged.

The reform proposed by the Executive would restrict the Supreme Court’s ability to reject laws by allowing Parliament to re-legislate regulations challenged by that body.

The plan would also allow the ultra-right government to control the appointment of magistrates.
