Shootings cause at least 12 deaths in the U.S. on the weekend

Washington, Jun 19 (Prensa Latina) A releasing count on Monday by a TV network highlighted that shootings in U.S. communities have caused since last Friday at least 12 deaths and nearly 100 injuries.

The CBS News reported that the incidents have occurred in suburban Chicago, Washington state, central Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Idaho, Southern California and Baltimore, among other places.

So far this 2023, the Gun Violence Archive site has registered that over 800 children and teens killings by bullets, including homicides and suicides.

A report this month from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions found that 2021 set a record for the most deaths in the country from this cause, with 48,830.

Authorities revealed that one of the weekend shootings took place in Willowbrook, Illinois, where early Sunday morning at least 23 people were shot, one fatally, in a suburban Chicago parking lot where hundreds of people had gathered.

The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office described that there had been carrying out a peaceful activity, which out of the blue, had turned into violent when several people fired multiple shots at those gathered there.

Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office stated that two individuals were murdered, and three suffered injuries after a suspect fired “randomly into the crowd” of a music festival in Washington state on Saturday night.
