The king will be in charge of the opening of the International Conference on June 30, which will commemorate Parliamentarism Day, something that will in fact set in motion Spain’s presidency of the EU, scheduled to run from July 1 to December 31.
The meeting will be headed by the president of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet, and the head of the Senate, Ander Gil.
For the moment, there are no changes in the calendar proposed by Madrid for the six-month direction of the EU, which includes, among other events, the Summit of the community bloc with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), in Brussels, on July 17 and 18.
As explained in a statement by the Congress of Deputies, the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union will host six meetings, including the aforementioned meeting in León on June 30.
In addition, it will host the XV Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (Eurolat) and the meeting of presidents of the Conference of European Affairs Specialized Bodies (Cosac).
The rest will be the Interparliamentary Conferences on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance and for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defense Policy (CFSP-CSDP); and the Cosac Conference.
