Evacuations and red alert in Chilean communes due to heavy rains

Chile-fuertes-lluvias
Santiago, Chile, Jun 23 (Prensa Latina) Several communes in central Chile have received an evacuation order due to the risk of rivers overflowing and landslides, as a result of the heavy rains that are affecting a large part of the country.

The National Service for Disaster Prevention and Reduction (Senapred) decided to move the inhabitants of nine towns in the provinces of Los Andes and San Esteban to a safe place due to the imminent risk of flooding.

Likewise, traffic was interrupted along route 60H, in Los Andes, due to the fall of mud and stones.

According to data provided by the General Directorate of Water, Senapred reported two points on the Aconcagua river where the critical level was reached, both due to the depth of the riverbed and for the quantity and speed of the liquid contained.

Minister of Public Works Jessica López said in Santiago that constant monitoring is being maintained on the Mapocho and Maipo rivers, both with a notable increase in their flow.

Asked during her tour of the city about an eventual overflow, the minister commented that nothing can be ruled out since the amount of rain still to fall is unpredictable.
