Madrid, Jun 28 (Prensa Latina) The imminent presidency of Spain of the European Union (EU) is an exceptional opportunity to consolidate the global reach of Ibero-American gastronomy and tourism.

An absolute priority on Wednesday Rafael Anson, president of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy (AIBG), reiterated in conversation with Prensa Latina and representatives of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico and Uruguay.

Author of several books, former advisor to Spanish President Adolfo Suarez, and with specialized columns in Spanish media, Anson assured again to Prensa Latina that the blooming of travelers to the region and the well-earned fame of its gastronomy open the door to set July 19 as the Ibero- American Day.

Nine restaurants were recently chosen among the 50 best in the world. One of them, Central, in Lima, Peru, tops the list drawn up each year by the William Reed media company.

Peru also included three other restaurants in the select list (Maido, Kjolle and Maita, all in Lima), while Spain led the Ibero-American group with six.

Mexico followed with three outstanding restaurants, Quintonil in ninth place, Pujol (13) and Rossetta (49), all three in Mexico City.

Then, Colombia came with two chosen, El Chato (33rd) and Leo (43rd), both from Bogota. In addition, A Casa do Porco (Sao Paulo, Brazil, in seat 12); Don Julio (Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 19th place); Borago (Santiago de Chile, 29th); and Belcanto (Lisbon, Portugal, in 25th place).

Spain will take up the six-month presidency of the EU from July 1 to December 31, 2023.
