CREO candidate harps on vote count in Guatemala City

Guatemala City, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) Roberto González, candidate for the Commitment, Renewal, and Order (CREO) party, requested the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) on Thursday to review records and votes of the municipal elections held in this capital city.

Since Monday, June 24, residents and workers strongly rejected the re-election of Ricardo Quiñonez from the Unionist Force with severe accusations of rigged elections.

In a press briefing, CREO National Prosecutor Pablo Duarte decried a “conspiracy” to present null votes and assured that he has no problem about recounting votes.

A dozen municipalities reported incidents given disputes between neighbors calling for municipal rigged elections.

Over 5.5 million Guatemalans, out of 9.3 million eligible, voted on Sunday, June 23, to elect a new president or vice president, 160 lawmakers to Congress, 20 to the Central American Parliament, and 340 mayors for the 2024-2028 period. pll/iff/npg/znc
