India calls for concrete BRICS action against climate change

New Delhi, Jun 29 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Environment Minister, Bhupender Yadav, urged the BRICS nations to create financial and technological associations to tackle climate change which is affecting the world.

During the ninth meeting of sector leaders of the member nations under the theme “Advancing environmental cooperation among BRICS nations towards achieving the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development”, Yadav urged to take concrete and urgent actions and intensify efforts to save the planet, while coming together to ensure environmental and climate justice, and a fair, just and inclusive transition.

The minister declared during the meeting that the implementation plan of the memorandum of understanding signed in July 2018 constitutes a platform for the exchange of knowledge, information, ideas and best practices.

He mentioned the efforts made by India for the protection of the environment and to address climate change, pollution and loss of biodiversity.

He also shared the main initiatives taken by India in recent years, such as Mission LiFE, presented by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in relation to a new lifestyle in line with and respect for the environment and nature to address the wrongdoings that afflict the environment.

The event was preceded by high-level discussions to finalize the final documents, which will be adopted during the group’s Environment Ministerial Meeting.
