malaria
San José, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Ministries of Health of Costa Rica and Nicaragua on Wednesday joined efforts to conduct cross-border interventions to eliminate malaria, official sources informed.

Since 2015, Costa Rica has been aimed to crack down on malaria by 2025, so Health Ministry has recently based its actions on a Detection, Diagnosis, Treatment, Research and Timely Response strategy to fight off the disease.

The binational meeting was focused on showing current malaria epidemiological situation at national level and in cross-border intersections, as well as strategic actions to improve health surveillance in clean sites.

Another of control initiatives is to strengthen and bring closer the rapid diagnosis of malaria with rapid tests for the active search with health inspectors, primary care technical assistants and volunteer collaborators.

Likewise, the tests are available in CCSS health services where there is no lab to perform blood stain patter analysis as a confirmatory test.

Among agreements reached during the meeting, it was established training in the Chorotega Region in July 2023 for the malaria surveillance protocol and elimination and prevention strategy.
