More than 500 minors murdered in Italy by their parents in 20 years

Rome, Jul 5 (Prensa Latina) A report presented today to the Senate revealed that Italy has registered 535 children killings in 20 years, while a bill that includes actions to prevent the murder of minors by their parents is being discussed.

Valeria Valente, legislator for the Democratic Party (PD) and promoter of this initiative, indicated in declarations disclosed in the informative digital site AdnKronos, that the objective of the bill is “to fill the legislative gaps in terms of measures to protect children in cases of gender or domestic violence”.

from 2000 to 2013, 340 minors were killed, according to the report prepared by the Center for Economic and Social Research (Eures), while in 2014 the highest number of deaths was recorded, with 39; the second worst year was 2018, with 33, and from 2020 to date amount to 31 crimes of this type.

Antonella Penati and Federico Sinicato, president and vice president, respectively, of the foundation Federico nel Cuore; as well as Vittoria Tola, national leader of the Italian Women’s Union (UDI), also intervened in the introduction of that bill in the parliamentary session on Wednesday.
