Chilean association condemns exhibition of Cuban counterrevolutionary

Santiago de Chile, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) The José Martí Cultural Association, based in the city of Concepción, Chile, expressed its discomfort with and condemns the upcoming exhibition of the Cuban counterrevolutionary activist Tania Bruguera at the Salvador Allende Solidarity Museum (MSSA).

The group issued a public statement denouncing the enormous ethical and political inconsistency of the MSSA in inviting someone, financed by various US-sponsored projects targeted at destabilizing Cuba, to the commemorative program for the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état that deposed Salvador Allende.

“Bruguera says that she comes to our country not only to exhibit her “work” but also to do political work, reminding us that “the Chilean people counted on the solidarity of the Cuban people. Perhaps a reverse action is needed,” the association said. “The first is totally effective and as Chileans, we are grateful for that solidarity that the Cuban people gave us, but that help was developed by the Revolution, with the leadership and genius of Fidel Castro. That is a historical detail that Bruguera leaves aside in an interesting and tricky way”.

The Association also recalled that the Solidarity Museum was founded during the Popular Unity government, headed by Salvador Allende, and exhibited valuable works donated by prominent artists from different latitudes.

It added that Cuba safeguarded the art, heritage and memory of the Chilean people, with the support of institutions such as the Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, Casa de las Américas and the Chilean Committee of the Anti-Fascist Resistance in Havana.
