Cuban president participates in Agricultural Innovation Workshop (+Photo)

Havana, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday called to increase the use of science and innovation to solve problems in agriculture, during the 2nd Agricultural Innovation Workshop, held in this capital.

The head of State commented that just as a call was made to scientists during the Covid-19 pandemic, “today they are called to turn all scientific capacities into perfecting agricultural activity.”

Díaz-Canel pointed out that agrarian development is decided in the municipality and it is necessary to harmonize the knowledge sector with the producers of goods and services, and public administration.

The president instructed to improve the bioproducts commercialization system, extend agroecology, generalize good practices, increase the training of cadres and implement research on agricultural.

Diaz-Canel assured that Cuba’s development perspective lies on science, which “has an answer for everything and is the way to achieve food sovereignty in Cuba.”

Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Tapia, in turn, pointed out that municipal university centers are key players in agricultural scientific activity.

In addition, he delved into the importance of specialized human resources to serve producers.

The event, organized by the Department of Science, Technology, Innovation and Environment at the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to spread the results of research and best practices to strengthen agricultural production chains.

Participants in the workshop agreed on the need to strengthen communication on agroecological techniques, and called for simplifying structures, programs and committing to the Law on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security.
