President of Peru celebrates seven months in office highly rejected

Lima, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Peruvian President Dina Boluarte celebrated seven months in office today with massive disapproval of her management ratified by a private survey, while new protests are being prepared against her.

The Datum company survey indicates that the rejection of the president reached 77 percent, with an approval of 15 percent.

The negative opinion rises to 92 percent in the south of the country, main scene of the large protests unleashed after December 7, 2022, when she became successor to imprisoned and ousted President Pedro Castillo.

The protests lasted until last March, with a high toll of around 70 deaths, the vast majority of whom were civilians shot during demonstrations, and national, international and social organizations have denounced serious human rights violations committed by the police and the military.

Those events are the subject of investigations by the Public Ministry without yielding results so far and the vast majority of Peruvian regions are preparing a 10-day wave of nationwide protests, starting next July 19.

As in previous demonstrations rejecting the Government, those announced demand the resignation of Boluarte, new presidential and legislative elections, and a constituent assembly.

Regarding that announcement, Prime Minister Alberto Otárola, whom a previous survey pointed out as the true ruler behind the scenes, only said today that it is a movement of radical sectors and that the Police will be in charge of controlling the protests.

The spokesman for the bench of the progressive Perú Libre party, Flavio Cruz, criticized the Executive for not making political proposals before the mobilization and instead appealing to repressive preparations.

In a recent speech, President Boluarte, before the first announcements of new protests, asked promoters “How many more deaths do you want?”, which social leaders and opposition parties described as a threat to the population.

According to Datum, disapproval of Boluarte reaches 85 percent in the center of the country, 78 percent in the north, 76 percent in the east, and 67 percent in Metropolitan Lima, the latter electoral bastion of right-wing forces whose support is decisive for The president to remain in the Government Palace.

The poll showed a worse result for the conservative-majority Parliament, registering 86 percent disapproval and only 9 percent approval.
