Russian security detains Ukrainian agent in Crimea

Moscow, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) arrested a Ukrainian military intelligence agent who blew up the railway tracks in Crimea's Bakhchisarai on February 23.

The FSB had thwarted the unlawful activities of a Russian citizen born in 1998, who, at the behest of Ukrainian special services, was implicated in committing an act of sabotage and terrorism on a railway facility in the Republic of Crimea.

After the special military operation began in February 2022, the Simferopol resident left for Odessa, where he was recruited by officers of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Directorate of Intelligence and received reconnaissance and sabotage training.

“On February 23, he received instructions from Ukrainian commands to blow up railway tracks in the Chistenkoye-Pochtovoye section, in the Bakhchisaray district of the Republic of Crimea, using an improvised explosive device supplied to him via a cache,” the security corps added.

As the Crimean Emergencies Ministry reported at the time, railway traffic was suspended due to the damage to the railroad tracks in the village of Pochtovoye.

According to the FSB, the suspect has been detained in Simferopol. The circumstances of his illegal activities and involvement in other crimes in Russia are being established.
