Jakarta, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) The 56th Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will focus on peace, stability and common prosperity in the region and throughout Asia and the Indo-Pacific.

The acting head of the Vietnamese delegation, Vu Ho, made the statement referring to the summit (AMM-56), to be held in the Indonesian capital until July 14th.

As Ho told the VNA news agency, the Foreign Ministers will hold at least 17 meetings during the four days of work. The event will summarize all the bloc’s achievements and will also deal with the problems that still exist so far this year, in order to outline the directions for cooperation until the end of 2023. The official also announced that issues related to peace, stability and development of the region, as well as other international issues, will be discussed at the meeting.

Regarding the performance of the Vietnamese delegation in the forums, the diplomat commented that the central task will be to contribute to the ASEAN common consensus and guarantee harmony in all the initiatives and interests of the countries, as well as rationality in the treatment of the problems. Another important task, he added, will be to support the initiatives and priorities of the ASEAN Presidency, held this year by Indonesia, by making concrete and practical contributions to maintain peace, stability and common development in the region.

The Vietnamese ambassador to the bloc, Nguyen Hai Bang, said that the AMM-56 constitutes an opportunity for ASEAN and its partners to address regional and international situations, especially in the context of complicated developments in some hot spots.

According to the Hai Bang, these meetings offer the possibility of affirming the role and strategic value of the mechanisms led by the bloc, in promoting dialogue and cooperation, and exchanging points of view to improve mutual understanding and build trust.

The Vietnamese representation at AMM-56 is headed by Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and who will take part in more than 20 meetings, and will work to strengthen solidarity and consensus in ASEAN so as to improve collaboration between the bloc and its partners.
