Honduras launches Operation Faith and Hope (+Photos)

Tegucigalpa, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) Operation Faith and Hope, promoted by the Honduran Government to regain the governance of the country's prisons, resulted in a seizure of more than eight million dollars on Tuesday.

According to Honduran authorities, this amount corresponds to the seizure of drugs, rifles, automatic weapons, ammunition, cell and satellite phones, cash, jewelry, grenades, and household appliances.

According to a Canal 8 report, the raids were made at El Pozo, La Tolva, Siria, and Támara prisons, and the National Women’s Prison for Social Adjustment.

Defense Minister José Manuel Zelaya on Monday congratulated the members of the Military Police of Public Order (PMOP) for the discipline and commitment shown by each member of the armed institution.

Operation Faith and Hope started two weeks ago by initiative of the Government of President Xiomara Castro, following a gang dispute that resulted in 46 inmates killed at a women’s detention center.
