Covid-19 positive cases on the rise in Jamaica

Kingston, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Jamaica's Health and Welfare Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton on Wednesday informed the country is currently experiencing a surge in positive coronavirus case rate, according to a news source.

Dr. Tufton said proportion of those diagnosed with Covid-19 showed an increase in June.

“Out of that number, 13 of them were reported as moderately-ill and one severely-ill. Covid-19 is still too much present in our population,” Dr. Tufton added as quoted by the Jamaica Observer newspaper.

Yet he stated his statement was not an attempt to alarm Jamaicans, as while there has been a growth in coronavirus detection, the comforting aspect is that there is no significant increased death or hospitalization tolls.

Health Ministry continues to encourage Jamaicans to respect infection prevention and control protocols because although the numbers are relatively low, a continued increase in the positivity rate could be detrimental.
