Talks between Ethiopian and Egyptian leaders focus on dam

Cairo, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed reportedly met in this capital on Thursday to address the bilateral dispute caused by the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the crisis in Sudan.

A press release from the presidency stated that the meeting was held in Cairo on Wednesday evening, where Ahmed arrived to seek to end the conflict in Sudan.

The text stated that the two officials discussed ways to resolve the crisis in that African country, improve bilateral relations between Egypt and Ethiopia, and address the GERD issue.

El-Sisi and Ahmed officially met on the sidelines of a Russia-Africa Summit held in Sochi in October 2019, although they later held several informal meetings.

Relations between Cairo and Addis Ababa have frozen since the construction of the dam on the Nile River began.
