Argentine social organizations condemn repression in Jujuy

Buenos Aires, Jul 14 (Prensa Latina) Social organizations and human rights defenders in Argentina will march in condemnation of the authorities of Jujuy's repression of the citizens who opposed a constitutional reform.

The demonstration was convened by the Memory, Truth and Justice Meeting, and is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. local time.

Amendments to the Constitution proposed by Governor Gerardo Morales (Radical Civic Union) were approved last month despite massive protests, which were violently repressed.

Among the aspects that generated the greatest discontent is article 67, which establishes that in order to guarantee the right to social peace, blocking streets and routes is forbidden, as well as any demonstration that could be considered violent, which is determined by the Police.

Two other dissatisfactory Articles, 94 and 95, provide for the control over land and water, which affects the original communities that were not heard by those who drafted the Constitutional document.

The national government, the Human Rights Secretariat, the Grandmothers and Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, the Association of Disappeared Ex-Detainees, indigenous and union groups condemned the violations and denounced the persecution, raids and arrests suffered by those who have opposed the reform.

“We warn the people and the international community about the repressive advance of political and judicial powers in Jujuy, where a particular variant of terrorism and institutional violence has been installed,” the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo said in a statement.
