Santo Domingo MO asks the removal of prohibited political propaganda

Santo Domingo, Jul 17 (Prensa Latina) Yesterday, the Mayor's Office of the National District of Santo Domingo asked the presidential, municipal and congressional pre-candidates, to remove the political propaganda which is not authorized in public spaces of the capital.

Listin Diario published that the mayor, Carolina Mejia, sent a notification to the presidents of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), People’s Force (FP), Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) and Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).

Also, to the highest representatives of the Partido Reformista Social Cristiano (PRSC), Alianza País (Alpaís), Opción Democrática (OD) and Partido Esperanza Democrática (PED), to whom it specified, that the city council will proceed to remove the advertising if these political forces, if they do not do so voluntarily within 72 hours after receiving the said notification.

In this sense, the mayor’s office requested collaboration and coordination with the pre-candidates for elective positions of the parties in this demarcation, in order to comply with the legal provisions.

The notice indicates that it is forbidden to place posters, street crossings and adhesive advertising in public spaces. Neither will be permitted propaganda that harms urban esthetics, environment or anything that is contrary to the provisions relating to municipal ornamentation allowed during the pre-campaign period, the country’s most widely circulated newspaper indicated.

Law 33-18, in its article 44, prohibits during the pre-campaign period the painting of streets, sidewalks, curbs, electricity poles and trees, with the colors or emblems of the candidate or the party, grouping or movement that supports it.

Also prohibited are: posters, billboards, street crossings, stickers, adhesives, badges, murals, and any other means of partisan advertising, which are not placed in accordance with the provisions of the aforementioned regulations or which are not located in the premises of these political forces.
