Mexico City, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican people commemorate today the 100th anniversary of the murder of Francisco (Pancho) Villa, one of its most illustrious and controversial sons and undisputed hero of the Revolution along with Emiliano Zapata.

The central act, led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, took place in Parral, Chihuahua, where the assassins fired dozens of bullets from a building into his car, killing almost all passengers instantly.

In 1966, his name was placed in gold letters in the Chamber of Deputies. In 1976, by a presidential decree, his remains were disinterred to be moved to Mexico City and buried in the Monument of the Revolution.
