Egypt to send helicopters to Greece to help fight fires

Cairo, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) Egypt will send three helicopters to assist in putting out several fires that have been affecting Greece for days, and which have devastated the island of Rhodes, the Armed Forces announced.

The three Boeing CH-47 Chinook are equipped with the necessary technology to help fight the fires, Egyptian Armed Forces spokesman Gharib Abdel-Hafez said in a statement.

The Egyptian assistance is in line with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to help friendly countries in the face of crises and difficulties, he added.

He declared that the move is a confirmation of the deep historical relations that unite Egypt and Greece.

According to press reports, in addition to Rhodes, where thousands of residents and tourists were evacuated, there are also fires near Athens and on the island of Corfu, on the West of Greece.
