Cienfuegos, Cuba, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) The city of Cienfuegos lived another patriotic day on Monday, when the 70th anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks were commemorated.

On July 26, 1953, more than 100 young people, led by student leader Fidel Castro, tried to occupy these military facilities following the coup d’état staged in 1952 by Fulgencio Batista.

During the event, several companies, entities, and institutions, including the Health Department, the Education Department, the Provincial Sports Directorate, Alficsa Plus S.A., the July 14 Sugar Company, the Provincial Food Industry Company, the Municipal Services, the Labiofam Cienfuegos Company, and the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Thermoelectric Power Plant, were acknowledged for their achievements during the year.

In his keynote speech, Maridé Fernández, a member of the Cuban Communist Party’s Central Committee and PCC First Secretary in Cienfuegos, stated that the province with revolutionary value and enthusiasm persists despite the United States blockade, the world economic crisis, the sad days of the Covid-19 pandemic, and other obstacles that we have to overcome every day.
