Buenos Aires, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) The Federal Oral Court 2 in Mendoza will host the last day of a trial against former Army officer Mario Guillermo Ocampo for crimes against humanity perpetrated during the last dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983).

According to the Human Rights Secretariat, Ocampo is prosecuted for a homicide and the kidnapping and torture of 14 people in the city of San Rafael, where he played a key role in organizing repressions between 1975 and 1979 as a first lieutenant of the 8th Company of Mountain Engineers.

Starting in 1980, the defendant was part of Intelligence detachment 201 in Campo de Mayo, where one of the extermination centers operated in Argentina in those years.

Ocampo was a fugitive from justice between 2012 and 2019, and in 2021 he was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Counteroffensive II case for crimes such as illegal deprivation of liberty, torture, and homicides committed at that facility.

In 2022 he received another life sentence for the arrest, torture, and murder of 23 citizens.

The hearing is scheduled for 08:30 local time. The verdict will be disclosed through digital platforms.

1,179 mass murderers have been sentenced since the end of the dictatorship, 40 years ago, the Secretariat indicated.
