Lula receives medical attention again in Brazil for hip pain

Brasilia, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva receives a new medical procedure today to relieve the pain he has felt in his leg and hip in recent months, official circles confirmed today.

Lula arrived at the Syrian-Lebanese hospital, in Brasilia, around 09:45 local time, and the forecast is that he will be released before noon to return to the Alvorada Palace, official residence.

According to TV Globo, the medical team from the health center in the city of Sao Paulo traveled to this capital to treat Lula, including cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho, the president’s private doctor, and two orthopedists.

The Presidency did not divulge Lula’s official agenda for this Wednesday, but government authorities confirmed to the G1 portal that meetings were scheduled and then canceled due to clinical care.

Two commitments scheduled for tomorrow Thursday were also unmarked: one with the president-elect of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, transferred for Friday; and a coffee with journalists from international media that will still be rescheduled.

The former labor leader will receive a hip procedure called an infiltration, when the patient receives an injection of medication directly into the affected area.

The day before, the ruler confirmed that he will undergo hip surgery next October. Last Sunday he received an infiltration at the Syrian-Lebanese, in Sao Paulo, to reduce the pain, but, according to him, the pelvis hurt again with more intensity.

Certain medical literature indicates that osteoarthritis is characterized by the wear of the cartilage that covers the joint, which leads to friction, or inflammation.

For Lula’s doctors, the only effective approach to this condition is surgery, which involves replacing the affected bone with a prosthesis.
