Fidel in the heart of Cuban Vocational Institute (+Photo)

Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Vocational Education and the conditions to develop it in Cuba are today a sustained premise in the legacy of the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

An example of the above was the inauguration of the Máximo Gómez Báez Vocational School in the city of Camagüey, where thousands of high school students have passed for more than four decades.

The youths have been trained beyond being students, as good people for society.

Much of this has passed since he opened the doors of the also known as the Vocational Polytechnic Institute (IPVCE), said the Commander in Chief of the Cuban people.

In 2016, the journalist Enrique Atiénzar published his article on the Cubadebate portal, “40 years ago Fidel inaugurated the Camagüey Vocational”, and in the text he provided some experiences of the first director of the institution, Elvira Siso.

“Fidel went through classrooms, bedrooms, through the kitchen and there the objective of the dining room-school was explained to him, about which he expressed his opinion when addressing those who accompanied him:

“You see this, we are going to have to do it in other places. We train high-level specialists, technicians and researchers and they don’t know how to behave at a table”, the article mentions. And it is that the educational formation went far beyond the class tasks.

So the purpose was focused first as an ethical element for teachers to set an example, and secondly on the students’ own understanding of the subject.

An enviable infrastructure allowed it to have gymnasiums, a swimming pool, amphitheatres, a dining room-school, classrooms, a school garden and a series of facilities for sports, recreation and culture for the training and enjoyment of the men and women of tomorrow.

It has been so much the case that only in the teaching part, there have been multiple international awards and recognitions in the various scientific spheres.

The awards have catapulted the center and the Cuban education system in general, among the most prestigious in Latin America.

Recently, César Endris Acosta, a graduate of the Máximo Gómez Báez Vocational Pre-University of Exact Sciences, obtained a bronze medal in the 55th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad (ICHO 2023).

Throughout its history, the Institute has served as a temporary home for evacuees affected by weather incidents or natural disasters, even as an isolation center for health contingencies.

The professionals of the Vocational School of this city that links the center with the east of Cuba are aware of the importance of their work, which is why today they can boast of having been part of the main issuer of students to the University of Camagüey.

In each of their stories and achievements there is the imprint of Fidel, capable of creating a network of centers such as the IPVCE in this city, which despite any lack spares no human resources to give their children an education as a treasure of the social system of Cuba.
