Ideal Olympic Half Marathon to pay tribute to Fidel Castro

Havana, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) The 13th edition of the Ideal Olympic Half Marathon will be held coming Sunday in honor of the 97th birth anniversary of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro and the founding of the Cuban Olympic Committee, organizers revealed on Monday.

The 21.197-km marathon will be held from San Jose de Las Lajas and Güines towns, in the western Mayabeque province, and has the added value of awarding qualifying points for the Havana 2023 Marathon, an international event.

Other races will be included, such as the 10-km race and the relay race. For the director of the Marabana-MaraCuba project and head of the National Commission of Races and Walks (CNCC) Carlos Gattorno, the foremost is to compete and pay homage to Fidel Castro.

The start time is scheduled for 06:30 am, local time, from the Nelson Fernandez Sports Center in San Jose de Las Lajas, whilst the finish line will be located in the central park of Güines.
