Neighboring countries show support to Niger’s military junta

Niamey, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Burkina Faso and Mali dispatched a joint delegation to this capital in support of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland (CNSP), the military junta that governs Niger after the ouster of pro-West president Mohamed Bazoum.

Bamako and Ouagadougou declared from the outset their support for the CNSP and with the dispatch of the commission now reiterate their readiness to oppose the eventual military operation of the Commission of West African States (Ecowas) to reinstate Bazoum in power by force.

Ecowas announced the day before that plans for military intervention are ready, but there are indications of opposition to military intervention from countries in the sub-region, such as Chad, and others further afield, notably Algeria.

For their part, the Malian Armed Forces announced, via social media, that the purpose of the joint delegation is “to show the solidarity of the two countries to the brotherly people of Niger”.
