Cuban foreign minister congratulates ASEAN on its 56th anniversary

Havana, Aug 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez congratulated the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the bloc's 56th anniversary on Tuesday in an excellent atmosphere of relations with Cuba.

With this regional entity from the Asian continent, Cuba maintains ties of friendship with the potential to strengthen multisectoral cooperation for mutual benefit, the head of Cuban diplomacy noted on Twitter.

In 2020, Cuba joined the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, which increased the opportunities to strengthen its ties in several areas.

ASEAN has systematically expressed its rejection of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which it shown in the voting on Cuba’s resolutions to demand an end to that coercive policy at the United Nations.

The influential regional bloc was founded in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 8, 1967, and is made up of ten countries from that region.
