UN warns of arrests and constitutional order in Niger

United Nations, Aug 8 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations (UN) expressed on Tuesday its deep concern for the detention of President Mohamed Bazoum as well as for the health and welfare of all detainees amid the Niger conflict.

“UN Secretary-General (UNSG) Antonio Guterres supports the ongoing mediation efforts of the Economic Community of West African States,” assured Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the Secretary-General at a press conference.

According to Haq, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the country is pursuing to deliver aid to those in need.

Last week, the UN and its partners completed some 200 humanitarian missions on the ground, the diplomat added.

In a message released on Monday, Gutteres urged to ensure unhindered humanitarian work by the UN and its entities in Niger.
