Colombian gov’t and ELN start 4th cycle of talks

ELN
Caracas, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) Colombian government and the National Liberation Army (ELN) started on Monday in Venezuela the 4th cycle of peace talks in search of a negotiated solution to the internal conflict.

In a joint statement, both sides reaffirmed their conviction on the transcendence of society participation in this process and of the transformations as a basis for peace and a national deal.

In that route, the public act carried out on August 3 in Bogota shows the development and positive outcomes of the Cuban Agreements, they add.

The government and the ELN further explain that the progress made at the negotiating table is reflected in the fulfillment of the schedule foreseen for implementing the deals on social participation and the cease-fire.

In relation to the former, the National Participation Committee was set with its members, its coordinating body, its Technical Secretariat and its five working commissions.

Likewise, the first actions have been taken for the deployment of 25 national and territorial processes for designing such participation to be carried out in the next four months, they point out.

Regarding the Bilateral, National and Temporary Ceasefire, both sides noted the mandate of the UN Security Council verification mission has been extended following July 6.

In the present cycle, they add, delegations will continue to develop these two deals. They will also address other issues relevant to the development of the dialogue agenda and the peace process.
