The manager explained that this class of submarines are currently armed with Kalibr and Onyx cruise missiles, as well as Fizik-2 (aka Futlyar) torpedoes.
“By order of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the nuclear submarines of the Yasen project will be rearmed with the Tsirkon missiles, as was done with the frigate of the 22350 Admiral Gorshkov project,” Rakhmanov added.
The Tsirkon hypersonic missile can fly at a speed of Mach 9 (that is, nine times the speed of sound) and has a range of over 1,000 kilometers.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that ground-launched Tsirkon missiles are also under development.
