Nearly 170 Palestinian minors are imprisoned in Israeli jails

Ramallah, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) Nearly 170 Palestinian minors are imprisoned in a number of Israeli jails, where they are subjected to torture and mistreatment, the Commission of Affairs of Prisoners and Former Prisoners denounced.

The Commission issued a statement stressing that the penitentiaries of Ofer, Megiddo and Damon “lack minimal living and human integrity conditions.”

The imprisoned children are subjected to torture and denigrating treatment which contradicts international human rights standards, it stated and pointed out that the systematical violations against them have never happened before in history in occupation jails, which constitutes a shame to the UN and international human rights organizations.

Three-fourths of the under ages were submitted to some sort of physical attack, and all of them experienced psychological torture.

The Commission also revealed that over 17 thousand Palestinian minors were arrested by the Israeli armed forces since 2000.

A recent report from the Society of Palestinian Prisoners alerted that many of the children are abducted by night from their homes, subjected to beatings in front of their parents, handcuffed, kept without food or water during long stretches of time, and interrogated without the presence of their relatives

Last March, the Children Defense International NGO reported that the excessive, lethal force employed systematically against Palestinian civilians affects children in a greater proportion. Ayed Abu Qutaish, head of the NGO, said in statements to Voice of Palestine radio that Israeli soldiers have killed 31 nonaged in the occupied territories so far this year.
